This jail opened in February of 2001 and offers the most advanced tools for detainees and employee safety and security. It can hold 127 inmates and 34 staff at one time, while the average is 110 people.

Inmates of Ashland County who are housed at the Ashland County Jail are arrested on either a felony or a misdemeanor, and will be held until they have their first court date or if they are serving a short sentence provided by the court.
As a full service jail there are many programs offered including educational services, parenting classes, addictions counselling, laundry, library, counseling, and commissary. To add to the account of an inmate, money can be provided to the desk in the lobby or through online deposit.
Phone accounts can also be supported with a prepaid account, or a debit phone account can be created online. Calls are charged by the minute and can be up to 15 minutes during available phone hours from 7:30 am until 10:30 pm. Calls may be monitored and recorded with the exception of calls to a lawyer. For same day communications there is an email system available that allows friends and family to send emails which are received the same day they are sent through the use of tablets and kiosks.
Video visitation can be done through the lobby kiosks or from home during regular visitation hours of 8:00 am until 11:25 am, then 1:00pm - 2:05 pm, 3:30 pm - 4:35 pm, and again at 6:00 pm - 8:50 pm on site, and 10:39 pm for video visits from home.

• Valid picture identification (e.g., driver's license, State I.D., or Military I.D. with picture) is required of all visitors, with the exception of children under the age of 17.
• Visitors under the age of 17 must be accompanied and supervised by an authorized adult visitor.
• Visitors who 'arrive' after the scheduled start time may not be allowed to visit.
• Clothing must cover all private/sensitive body areas.
• The visitation schedule may be canceled or altered on holidays or for safety/security reasons.
• Ashland County Jail can disconnect, deny, change, or cancel a visit at any time.
• Internet connectivity issues during offsite visits will NOT be refunded.
• Each visitation session will show a timer to display elapsed time.
