Lenoir Youth Development Center Information

Serving male juveniles throughout the county, the Lenoir Youth Development Center opened in May of 2017, after the closure of the original Dobbs Youth Development Center that had been built in 2008. It was upgraded for better security and a safer environment, as well as redesigned to house up to 22 juveniles. The Youth Development Centers throughout North Carolina are the most secure and strict of the juvenile facilities and offer intensive treatment, house violent offenders, serious offenders, or those with an extensive history of delinquency. Assessments are conducted during the intake to ensure that treatments, counseling, medical care, and education are provided at the level needed by the individual, and to create their individual program. These programs and commitments are not set terms, but rather juveniles are held until they complete their program and meet their goals with most remaining over 6 months, and some extending beyond their 18th birthday. Youth may find themselves in the facility up until they are 21 in some cases. Schooling and meal plans are based upon those used and approved in the local public schools, following their nutrition guides and the curriculum provided. Mail: 3055 Dobbs Farm Road, Kinston, N. C. 28504 Staff may inspect or check each piece of mail that is entering or leaving the facility for contraband, as limiting contraband through mail keeps the facility safer for everyone. Phones: Phones are only to be used to contact approved outside contacts, do not accept incoming calls, and are only available during approved hours. Visitation: Visits are limited to approved visitors only, who are able to schedule visits through the facility.
