The Buncombe Juvenile Detention Center was closed in 2016 and was replaced with a new facility, the Juvenile Crisis and Assessment Center. The new center is a non-secure detention center that will house youth who are aged 10 to 16 years old. Each will have their one individual room and will receive the support they need outside of their family home for as long as two weeks. The new facility is not a detention center, but a short term housing service.
