About the Platte County Detention Center

The Platte County Detention Division in Missouri has a capacity of 180 inmates. The facility is considered a regional medium security jail. The Platte County Sheriff's Office website also confirms that the detention center is a "modern 180-bed facility that houses local, state, and federal detainees at various stages of the criminal justice process".

In addition, Platte County is now proposing a new 471-bed facility be built. They have already asked Clinton County if they wish to commit to space in the proposed new facility.

The address and contact number for the Platte County Detention Center are as follows:

  • Address: 415 Third Street Suite 10, Platte City, MO, 64079-8642.
  • Phone: 816-858-3462 Fax: 816-858-3053.

The Platte County Detention Center adjoins the county courthouse and has been built in stages, adding additions when needed. As you approach the facility from the outside, it almost appears a castle with high walls and a moat around it.

Platte County Detention Center contracts almost exclusively with one company, Inmate Canteen, to provide everything from phone cards, to text messaging, to sending money and snacks, to providing a vehicle for remote video visitation.

The only exceptions would be that they use Securus for their inmate phone calling service, and outside vendors for their e-cigarette servive.  Not that for an inmate to get an e-cigarette, they must be at least 21 years old, have the money for it in their accounts, and not be on any kind of restriction.

In-person, non-contact visitation is often suspended due to the ongoing concerns about COVID-19.  Both video visit schedules and in-person schedules, can be found on our visitation page. Video visits are daily, while in-person visits are limited to Saturdays, Sundayss and Mondays, the times depend on an inmate's specific housing.

Mail can be received every day and is processed and passed to the inmates quickly, however the jail also uses a digital service to help avoid contraband entering the facility. Friends and family of inmates in the Platte County Detention Center can arrange to visit inmates by video, both at the jail and remotely from home. They can also send them money and buy them commissary online, and set up a phone account that allows the inmates to call them during the day and evening seven days a week.

All the information on these inmate services can be found in the sections below.  If you still have questions, you can phone the jail 24 hours a day by calling 816-858-3462.
