The Platte County Detention Center adjoins the county courthouse and has been built in stages, adding additions when needed. As you approach the facility from the outside, it almost appears a castle with high walls and a moat around it.
Platte County Detention Center contracts almost exclusively with one company, Inmate Canteen, to provide everything from phone cards, to text messaging, to sending money and snacks, to providing a vehicle for remote video visitation.
The only exceptions would be that they use Securus for their inmate phone calling service, and outside vendors for their e-cigarette servive. Not that for an inmate to get an e-cigarette, they must be at least 21 years old, have the money for it in their accounts, and not be on any kind of restriction.
In-person, non-contact visitation is often suspended due to the ongoing concerns about COVID-19. Both video visit schedules and in-person schedules, can be found on our visitation page. Video visits are daily, while in-person visits are limited to Saturdays, Sundayss and Mondays, the times depend on an inmate's specific housing.
Mail can be received every day and is processed and passed to the inmates quickly, however the jail also uses a digital service to help avoid contraband entering the facility.
