The Jackson County Detention Center maintains an average of 872 offenders in custody on any given day. The Jackson County Detention Center has a monthly turnover of 40% of their inmate population, another 30% turnover every 90 days, another 20% every six months, and approximately 10% stay incarcerated between six and twelve months. Every year Jackson County law enforcement agencies arrest and detain approximately 21,900 offenders.

Upon their arrival each inmate or new arrestee will be processed and booked, including gathering background information, fingerprints, a medical assessment and mental health assessment, and at this point many will be provided the opportunity to pay bail and may be released soon after.
For those who are unable to make bail, or who are not qualified for bail, they will be held at Jackson County Detention Center until their court date or until they are released.
Classification is the next step for anyone who is not to be bonded out quickly, and this will gather their past behavior in a detention center, their criminal history, and other vital information to determine the level of security they require and where they will be housed. After the assessment and classification any required medical care will be arranged and mental health support can be recommended and arranged for the duration of their detention with referrals for continuing outside of incarceration.
