Henley-Young Juvenile Justice Center Information

The Henley-Young Juvenile Justice Center offers a safe and secure detention facility for juveniles who are ages 12 to 17. It houses up to 84 residents at one time and covers over 52,000 square feet which includes the detention administration, intake, central control where all the cameras and doors are monitored, four living/housing units, recreation areas, full kitchen, classrooms, the Youth Court, and visiting area. By having all of the services in one area juveniles are able to attend court easily, will be housed either short term for their court dates or long te3rm to serve any length of detention ordered by the court, and they will receive healthy meals, laundry services, education, clothing, medical care, and other needs. A behavior program is in place that operates on a points system that allows youth to earn additional privileges and to face consequences for inappropriate behaviors. Medical staff is onsite including an LPN, nurse practitioner, and mental health specialist who provide care for all residents, and mental health support is offered after the assessment is completed upon arrival. Other programs such as the gardening project offer additional outlets and interests for students where they will learn additional life skills. The garden project offers a large garden for the youth to care for where they will learn responsibility by keeping the plants alive and healthy, confidence from seeing the results, time spent outside, teamwork and cooperation, and the food harvested is used by the facility.
