Monroe County Youth Center Information

The Monrow County Youth Center is the detention center for juveniles who are waiting for a court date, who have broken rules of their probation, or are assigned to the center for treatment or detention. Rather than approach the youth with the intent to punish them, it uses creative programs to teach responsibility, accountability, and caring for oneself, family, and community. Both mental and physical health are a focus, as well as ongoing education, community projects, and other necessary support. The majority of the detainees will remain in the facility for between 30 and 90 days. School education continues with teachers who attend the facility to assist youth in completing work that is equal to the work done in the local public schools. Each day is well scheduled throughout their stay, including school, tutoring, recreation, physical education, individual or group therapy, book club, art programs, and several other programs and opportunities. A nurse is onsite 25 hours each week and there is an on call provider for all medical services including medication, assessment, dental services, and emergency care.
