⇓ Learn more ⇓ Show lessThe Monroe County Jail in Michigan, built in 1981, has a capacity of 183 inmates. At the time it cost $11 million to build.
It is one of two jails in Monroe County, the second being the newer Monroe County Dormitory Facility, first occupied in 2001. The Monroe County Jail is located in downtown Monroe, across the street from the County Courthouse, and connected by a skybridge, at 100 East Second Street. You can call the jail 24 hours a day by calling 734-240-7430.
The Monroe County Main Jail Facility is a multi story reddish brick building that also houses the Sheriff's Department, the organization that runs the jail with Sheriff's deputies as the corrections officers. Between the two facilities the Sheriff's Department arrests and books approximately 3500 offenders each year. The jails detain local offenders as well as those arrested by ICE and the US Marshals. On any given day there are approximately 22 ICE inmates and 20 associated with the US Marshals.

The Monroe County Main Jail Facility operates a full service kitchen to feed the inmates, with each mail costing the facility about $1.63 to prepare. They also have a medical clinic.
Recently the Monroe County Main Jail Facility began using a new electronic tracking system, called Guardian RFID®. The system includes a handheld Spartan device (a unit is assigned to each corrections officer while working) which is similar to a smartphone, inmate ID card with embedded RFID microchips and hardened, bulletproof wall tag. All inmate movement, physical headcounts, security checks, medical care and many other inmate activities are captured with the Spartan devices and recorded ‘live’ into the software cloud. The data is then instantaneously transferred to the Inmate Monitoring and Inmate Locator system you see online.
The Monroe County Main Jail Facility incarcerates both men and women, and all security classifications. The classifications are generally broken down with 13% being maximum security, 49% being medium security, and 38% minimum security.

Understanding the rules completely are the responsibility of both you and your inmate. Not knowing the rules will NOT be accepted as an excuse if you make a mistake and violate them. Disobeying them could result in being banned from have future visits.
• Any inmate or visitor whose behavior is disruptive during a visit may have his/her visiting privileges suspended/terminated.
• All visits are subject to monitoring and recording.
• All visits must be scheduled 6 hours prior to the appointment or up to 13 days in advance.
• You must check-in 15 minutes prior to the scheduled visit.
• Valid picture identification (e.g., driver's license, State I.D., or Military I.D. with picture) is required of all visitors, with the exception of children under the age of 17.
• Visitors under the age of 17 must be accompanied and supervised by an authorized adult visitor.
• Visitors who 'arrive' after the scheduled start time may not be allowed to visit.
• Clothing must cover all private/sensitive body areas.
• The visitation schedule may be canceled or altered on holidays or for safety/security reasons.
• Monroe County Main Jail Facility can disconnect, deny, change, or cancel a visit at any time.
• Internet connectivity issues during offsite visits will NOT be refunded.
• Each visitation session will show a timer to display elapsed time.
• After your visit has ended your connection will be terminated automatically.
