Kent County Juvenile Detention Information

The Kent County Juvenile Detention Center offers secure housing for juveniles who are determined to require detention for their own security or for the security of the community. Each of the programs that are offered are intended to reduce the chance of the youth reentering the facility or reoffending. It has a capacity of 98 and is created as a small community to support the juveniles and staff in every way. Staff have ongoing training every year, and to keep the facility open and operating around the clock they maintain a staff of over 100 people. The 98 beds are divided into ten housing units with one for secure housing of high risk youth, three for county based residential programs, and each of these housing units has a common area and is created to provide the best chance of success for each of the residents. CBT is provided, and every day has acriviites that are designed to be constructive, educational, and productive. The school is onsite with five teachers, a reading specialist, four workers for remedial math and reading, a social worker, a student advocate, and special education support staff. This allows full assessments and testing of each student to provide the care and support they need for their education, and that plan is shared with their school when they are released from the program. Mail: 1501 Cedar Street NE Grand Rapids, MI 49503-1390 All mail is screened before delivery. Phone: Phone privileges must be earned by the juveniles through their behavior and can vary depending on how long they are residents.
