About the Ash Street Jail

Bristol County has several jail or detention locations throughout, including this, the Ash Street Jail, the House of Corrections and Jail, and the Bristol County Sheriff’s Office Women’s Center.

This particular location, the Ash Street Jail and Regional Lock-Up is operated by the Sheriff’s Office and houses over 200 inmates while they are awaiting their trial. It does not house sentenced inmates, with those who are serving a sentence being transferred to alternative locations that meet their security level needs and services.

Some workers are present who are sentenced inmates, with about 12 of these inmates being housed at this location to help with the work duties in the building and tasks to assist in cleanliness and maintenance while gaining skills that can lead to employment after incarceration.

While incarcerated inmates are encouraged to participate in programs that will provide growth, practice life and social skills, and to continue their education.

  • In order to vist an inmate you need to fill out and submit an Adult Request to Visit Form. A new one has to be submitted before each visit.
  • Children need to have a separate Minor Request to Visit form filled out for them. A new one has to be submitted before each visit.
    - Minor visitors (17 and younger) must be accompanied with an approved adult.
    - Up to two (2) minors may visit with an inmate at the same time.
    - A Minor Visit Consent Form must be approved before the visit.
    - Visitors with infants may bring a receiving towel, pacifier and a plastic formula bottle during the visit, but not a diaper bag.
    - Minor visits are subject to search.
    - Approved adults shall be responsible for the behavior of minor visitors
  • Inmates shall have the opportunity for two (2) visits per week, sixty (60) minutes long.
  • You will need a valid government issued photo ID.
  • Dress appropriately - Nothing seductive, revealing or unprofessional - Dress as if you are visiting someone's grandmother for the first time... otherwise you will be refused to allow to stay for a visit.

Magazines
News, special interest or sports magazines may also be mailed to an inmate as long as they are shipped directly from the publisher. Any magazines that contain profanity, weapons, pornography or other content that is adult in nature will be confiscated by the jail staff and will NOT be delivered to the inmate.

Books
The Ash Street Jail allows books to be mailed directly to the jail from a reputable source such as AmazonBarnes & Noble or Books-A-Million. You can order them directly from your computer and have them shipped to the inmate at the address noted.
Books must NOT contain images or content that are considered excessively violent, pornographic or obscene. Any book that does not meet the Ash Street Jail standards will be disposed of.
