Housing the juveniles who have been arrested or determined to require detention in the St. Martins area, the St. Martin Sheriff’s Juvenile Training Center is under the operation of the sheriff and provides safe and secure housing. They are also on a set schedule and have daily routines to follow that encourage the juveniles to take responsibility for their choices, to learn how to manage their own routines, and to be accountable for their decisions. School is key and marks are maintained by holding regular schooldays in the classrooms onsite, with teachers both providing the lessons and checking their work. Assessments are conducted to determine any medical needs and to offer treatment for those needs, as well as a mental health assessment to access any mental health services that they may need. Educational and vocational training may be necessary for the best results and will be provided, with the goal of the juvenile developing skills that will serve them throughout their future and help them to be fully immersed in their community and have productive and healthy lives.
