About the Ouachita Parish Correctional Center

The Ouachita Parish Correctional Center in Louisiana first constructed a facility with 180 beds in 1963. It has grown almost 700% since then to its current capacity of 1222 beds. The correctional center is located at 4801 US-165, in Monroe, LA 71202. With a staff of 150 full time sheriff deputies, it houses inmates for the Department of Corrections, those sentenced in parish court, and pretrial inmates awaiting trial. People arrested in Monroe, West Monroe, Richwood, Sterlington, Ouachita Parish, and by Louisiana state agencies such as the State Police, Probation and Parole, and the Wildlife and Fisheries Departments are housed here.

Ouachita (pronounced 'watch-a-ta'), is a French spelling of the Indian word 'washita', meaning "good hunting ground", because it was an excellent hunting and fishing area for Quapaw and Caddo tribes, long before Louisiana became a US state. Given its population of just 160,000 people, Ouachita Parish has one of the highest per capita rates of incarceration in the entire country.

The Ouachita Parish Correctional Center, run by the Ouachita Parish Sheriff's Office, is a hodge-podge collection of at least sixteen buildings spread over approximately 25 acres. It is surrounded by just as many acres of land that is also farmed by the facility's inmates for food eaten by the inmates. The correctional facility also includes the Women’s and Men’s Transitional Work Programs, better known as Work Release, which numbers as many as 200 of the total 1222 inmate population at the Ouachita Correctional Center.

You can contact the facility 24 hours a day for information about an inmate or a policy by calling 318-327-1369, and you can look up an inmate's information online using the official Inmate Search and Jail Roster app. When using it, if all you want to do is look at all the inmates, you can search by entering just one letter into the 'Last name' field and clicking 'Search', bringing up all the inmates in the given time period with that letter. The information provided includes the inmate's booking number (which you will need to write them a letter), criminal charges, docket numbers for court, bond, and personal information about them.

Mail can be received every day and is processed and passed to the inmates quickly, however the jail uses a digital service to avoid contraband entering the facility. Friends and family of inmates in the Ouachita Parish Correctional Center can arrange to visit inmates by video, both at the jail and remotely from home. Friends and family can also communicate using an online text/email system, send them money and buy them commissary online, and set up a phone account that allows the inmates to call them during the day and evening seven days a week.

All the information on these inmate services can be found in the sections below.  If you still have questions, you can phone the jail 24 hours a day by calling 318-327-1369.
