Serving the Ouachita Parish and surrounding communities, the Green Oaks Juvenile Detention home offers a safe, secure, and supportive location for juveniles. It can house up to 60 juveniles, with two units for males that have 22 single cells in each, and one unit of 8 single cells for female juveniles. Within the units there are common charges, seriousness of offences, ages, and needs. Each of the units has a day room that they can access daily to read, have social interactions with other students and staff. Each of the doors within have electronic locks that are controlled from the central control room, the kitchen and laundry are both able to accommodate up to 100 juveniles. Three classrooms and licensed teachers along with the computer lab allow for the education of all students to continue. A nurse is located at the nurses station, there is a large intake area for new admittances, and all medical and mental health care is provided. During detention youth are able to continue their school and receive counseling if required, as well as form new habits and skills that will serve them well into their future and help them to build healthy lives as productive members of their community.
