Laurel Regional Juvenile Detention Center Information

After opening in 2002 the Laurel Regional Juvenile Detention Center closed in 2005 due to safety and operational concerns. As the ground the facility was built on shifted over the years it caused damage to the building, caused there to be no hot water, cracked some of the walls, and created structural damage to the building itself. At that time it had 31 residents that were transferred to other locations, and staff were reassigned. At the time of closure there was space for 50 juveniles who are under 18 to wait for their court dates or for transfer to another location. As a short term holding location most were present for only a few days to a couple weeks, with no long term sentences being served at the facility. When the facility is open it operates with all required services for the youth, including clean clothing and bedding, healthy balanced meals, necessary medical care and mental health support as needed. Education is provided in conjunction with the local schools to ensure continuity of topics and information. Mail: Phones: Phones are located in common areas and allow juveniles to contact their parents and guardians, along with any others who are on the approved visitor list. Visitation: Visits are arranged by the facility to work with the schedule of the location and the student.
