Boyd County Juvenile Detention Center Information

Youth who are over the age of 14 and are determined by the Juvenile Court to require detention in the state of Kentucky will be housed at the nearest juvenile detention center. For the area of Ashland and surrounding counties this will be in the Boyd County Juvenile Detention Center. Several alternatives to detention are in place as well, which works to decrease the number of juveniles who are in detention each year. These include home detention or home incarceration, community supervision, or other placements. While within the detention center, they will be kept as close to their home and family as possible, allowing for regular phone calls and visits which assure both the youth and the family that they are available and helps to promote good mental health for both. Each of the juveniles will be provided with clean clothing and bedding, healthy meals, education in the onsite classrooms, access to a library for recreational reading, and opportunities to learn and develop new life skills. Social interactions with staff and other students are encouraged and will assist in learning new social skills, and through this developing alternative ways to communicate and to avoid a return to detention in the future. Both medical and mental health care are also provided throughout any detention. Mail: 2420 Roberts Dr, Ashland, KY 41102 Mail is to be delivered by the postal system and contain both the full address and the name of the juvenile as well as a full return address with name and address.
