Woodbury County Juvenile Detention Center Information

The Woodbury County Juvenile Detention Center provides a safe and clean environment for the juveniles who are in need of housing or detention in the county. They are only admitted by the Juvenile Court or law enforcement, and only a court can enforce them staying at the facility There are several steps before they can be committed to the facility for any length of sentence, including a detention hearing, intake, filing for detention, another detention hearing to determine a sentence, and then the detention period will begin. Each person who is housed in the facility for any length of time will attend regular classes to continue their schooling, and a recent change has determined the local public school board will not only supply the curriculum and even licensed teachers for the facility but they will also combine food services so the detention center will receive the same balanced meals that local schools do for breakfast and lunch while also having dinner delivered to them. Continuity is provided from the home schools to the facility so that students may transfer back at any time and not fall behind their classmates. Mail: 822 Douglas - 4th Floor, Sioux City, IA, 51101 All mail may be checked for contraband in the presence of the youth it is intended for, to ensure the safety of the facility is maintained. Phones: Parents and guardians may receive phone calls at least one day each week, which will occur after school hours but before bedtime. Visitation: Families may visit, and parents or guardians can contact the facility directly to be provided with the day and time of their visit. Visits are scheduled around the programs and schedule of the youth who will be receiving the visit.
