About the Scott County Jail

The Scott County Jail in Iowa has a capacity of 363 inmates. The jail is located in Davenport and is the only adult detention facility for Scott County, Iowa. The address of the Scott County Jail is 400 W. 4th St., Davenport, IA 52801-1104. The contact number for the jail is 563-326-8750. The jail is attached to the county courthouse, which makes for easy and secure transporting of inmates.  That said, the jail even has the ability for video appearances in court from the jail.

When an offender is fiirst booked into the Scott County Jail they are placed in Receiving for the first week. Once the staff decides whether they can handle being in General Population they are moved, however if they are known to be violent or have special needs, they are placed in an area called Special Management, which is just a fancy way of calling it Solitary Confinement, aka 'the hole'.

The jail provides an Inmate Jail Roster of all the current inmates as well as daily booking reports so that you can see who has been arrested. The Inmate List includes mugshots, criminal charges, personal descriptions, bond amount, what agency arrested them and information about their upcoming court appearances.

Free parking is available in the visitor's lot adjacent to the jail or on-street parking is available in front of the building on 4th Street. There's a lot of history behind the Scott County Jail. The new jail, which was completed in 2008, actually uses part of the original jail that was first constructed in 1896, 112 years earlier.  In fact, the laundry room at one time years earlier was the county horse stable.

How Do You Visit an Inmate in the Scott County Jail? What is the Schedule?

  • The inmate must list you as a visitor and can be allowed up to two (2), one (1) hour visits per week, each consisting of up to three (3) people (including children).
  • You must schedule your visit appointment at least 24 hours in advance by calling 563-326-8750, but no more than seven (7) days in advance. If you call and no one is there, leave a message. Someone will return your call.
  • Always arrive at least 15 minutes prior to the scheduled visit time and register with the Visitation Officer.
  • Anyone age 13 years and older must present valid government issued picture identification.
  • When you come to visit you will be checked for current wants/warrants and if found, you will be arrested.
  • The parent or legal guardian must accompany a person under the age of 18, must provide documentation to prove the relationship to the juvenile, i.e. birth certificate or court paperwork for guardianship, must be one of the three (3) approved visitors and must stay with the juvenile during the visit.

News, special interest or sports magazines may also be mailed to an inmate as long as they are shipped directly from the publisher. Any magazines that contain profanity, weapons, pornography or other content that is adult in nature will be confiscated by the jail staff and will NOT be delivered to the inmate.

Books
The Scott County Jail allows books to be mailed directly to the jail from a reputable source such as AmazonBarnes & Noble or Books-A-Million. You can order them directly from your computer and have them shipped to the inmate at the address noted.
Books must NOT contain images or content that are considered excessively violent, pornographic or obscene. Any book that does not meet the Scott County Jail standards will be disposed of.
