About the Muscatine County Jail

Falling under the responsibility of the Sheriff’s Office, the red brick building that contains the 133-bed Muscatine County Jail is the main jail for all Muscatine County offenders, both misdemeanor and felony, as they wait for their trial or serve a short sentence only.

They are able to access medical and mental health care, as well as maintain contact with family and friends. To check if someone is present and detained at the location there is online access and staff are able to answer basic questions and provide limited information by calling 563-262-4190.

Mail will only be received from the post office and will be checked for contraband before full delivery, as well as requiring a full return address or it will be refused.

In order to have visits with an inmate you must first send a letter to the inmate that includes your full name, SSN, date of birth, address, and phone number. Visits are available 7pm-9pm on Monday for male inmates and Tuesday for female inmates, as well as 12pm-2pm on Saturday for male inmates and 6pm-8pm for female inmates.

Online access allows friends or family to supply money to a commissary account to pay for necessary purchases, or they may access the kiosk located in the lobby. This is also the location that operates the alternative sentencing for the county, with a work crew providing work to inmates as they are serving a sentence and the ability to do community service.

    Steps Inmate canteen Visitation:
    1. Go to www.inmatecanteen.com on a computer (not supported on mobile devices i.e. tablets, cell phones, etc)
    2. Log in, select your inmate, and select the Video Visit an Inmate option.
    3. You will be required to fill out a form, submit a driver's license picture and a picture of your face. Once submitted, Muscatine County Jail will either approve or deny it.
    4. Once approved you will be all set to video visit!
    NOTES: Make sure you are allowing flash player to run in google chrome by selecting the lock icon to left of the browser. Flash Player needs to be set to “allow”. Then you can refresh the page and it should be good to go. If flash player is being blocked you will not be able to take a picture or see any video during the visitation.
