The Southwest Iowa Juvenile Detention Center serves Fremont County and houses up to 25 youth, both male and female, who have been arrested and are not willing to attend their court date if they are released, who are serving a sentence, or who are at risk of harming themselves or someone else. Juvenile housed in the facility are between 12 and 17 years old. Each of the juveniles will participate in an assessment upon their arrival that will determine their housing unit, any medical care they need, mental health care that is required or would be beneficial, any special dietary needs or accommodations in education, physical education, or other areas. Once they are assigned a housing unit they will be provided with a full schedule for each day, their education will continue in a similar manner to their home school with onsite teachers, and they will participate in all mandatory group or individual counseling or behavioral therapy. A level system will determine what positive behaviors and choices will result in increased privileges such as additional phone calls or later bedtimes. Any magazines that contain profanity, weapons, pornography or other content that is adult in nature will be confiscated by the jail staff and will NOT be delivered to the inmate.

Books
The SW Iowa Juvenile Detention Center allows books to be mailed directly to the jail from a reputable source such as AmazonBarnes & Noble or Books-A-Million. You can order them directly from your computer and have them shipped to the inmate at the address noted.
