The Juvenile Detention Center within Des Moines Iowa is the Polk County Juvenile Detention Center, and it offers housing to juveniles of all ages who require detention for their own safety or the safety of others, or who have been assigned to the facility by the juvenile court. Intake of new juveniles is available around the clock and the facility is fully staffed at all times. Each student is provided with a program designed for their needs and it includes their education to match to their local school progress and curriculum, any mental health support including therapy or counseling and behavioral therapy as needed. A reward system is in place to encourage positive choices, engaging in the programs set out for them, and staying on the strict schedule that is in place. Positive choices and behaviors are rewarded with increased privileges and activities. Three full meals and one snack are served each day, and they are planned to be nutritious and balanced to ensure that each student is receiving the nutrients they need. Medical staff are available to provide any prescription medications, to provide needed care for illness or injury, and mental health professionals are present to help with rehabilitation and health needs. Any magazines that contain profanity, weapons, pornography or other content that is adult in nature will be confiscated by the jail staff and will NOT be delivered to the inmate.
