Housing juvenile offenders from the ages of 10 up to 21, there is space for up to 80 detainees in this location at one time, and they are provided in separate housing units to meet the needs of each of the youth. If required, it was designed with the ability to be expanded to an additional 80 beds. When determining housing there is an assessment that includes age, gender, previous behavior in detention facilities, and the seriousness of the charges being faced. Those who are being charged in the same incident will not be permitted to share a housing unit, and each unit contains individual or double cells with a common area. Juveniles will be admitted to the facility under court order, if law enforcement has requested it for the safety of the community until they appear in court, or if they are waiting for their sentencing to occur. Programming is in place to address counseling or therapy needs, education, behavior, life skills, and social skills. The goal of the facility is to provide youth with the tools they need to be successful outside of the facility and to lead healthy and productive lives. Contact is maintained with parents and guardians to ensure they are supported throughout their stay and that they will have a support system after their release. Magazines
News, special interest or sports magazines may also be mailed to an inmate as long as they are shipped directly from the publisher. Any magazines that contain profanity, weapons, pornography or other content that is adult in nature will be confiscated by the jail staff and will NOT be delivered to the inmate.

Books
The Kane County Juvenile Justice Center allows books to be mailed directly to the jail from a reputable source such as AmazonBarnes & Noble or Books-A-Million. You can order them directly from your computer and have them shipped to the inmate at the address noted.
Books must NOT contain images or content that are considered excessively violent, pornographic or obscene. Any book that does not meet the Kane County Juvenile Justice Center standards will be disposed of. 
Hard cover books will not be accepted by the jail due to their potential to be used as a weapon.
