Youth who are within the area and are determined to require extended treatment or rehabilitation will be located at this facility.
The Augusta Youth Development Campus is only one of several across the state that take in long term residents who are under the age of majority or were arrested and sentenced while they were under the age of majority. Teens and adults are housed separately for safety reasons, and other factors that determine housing assignments include gender, age, seriousness of the charges, and other special needs that any may require. Those who are in school will receive ongoing lessons during the regular schooldays with licensed teachers from the local school board, making it easy for them to maintain their education and to return back to their school upon their release.
Along with their education, nutritional and medical needs are also provided for, and there are opportunities for counseling or therapy, group sessions and individual, or even family counseling as needed.
Recreation time is available each day and may be used for reading, playing games, doing homework, or correspondence.
