Waycross Regional Youth Detention Center Information

Waycross RYDC is one of the smaller Regional Youth Detention Centers found in Georgia, and it houses up to 30 juvenile offenders from the 14 participating communities.

Staff at this facility are trained in safety measures and work to prevent disagreements or outbursts by providing alternatives. This improves safety for both the staff and the students.

As a short term housing facility, the majority of students at this location are in grade 8 through 11, and are waiting for their court date, waiting for their sentence, or are being transferred to another facility that will better meet their needs. To ensure that each individual receives the care that they need, there is a full kitchen that provides healthy meals, a medical unit that provides care for both ongoing medical needs as well as any medical incident that occurs, a mental health area for counseling, treatment, trauma recovery, and more, and classrooms to provide ongoing education. Life skills and social skills are developed through both individual and group activities, and many classes or sessions are available to learn financial management, parenting, anger management, or other skills that an individual may require.
