In DeKalb County newly arrested individuals who are awaiting their trial, as well as those who are serving a sentence will be held at DeKalb County Jail which can be contacted by calling 404-298-8145.

It provides a secure environment with staff who are focused on the safety of the community as well as that of the inmates within the jail and they work to provide a good example of positive social interactions, to build relationships, and to promote a positive environment focused on rehabilitation and reducing recidivism.

Many programs are operating in DeKalb County Jail that assist inmates in learning new skills, improving their education, and overcoming their own obstacles to meet their goals.

The START program is a 90 program that provides a strong curriculum for those with felony drug charges, substance abuse is addressed through support groups and counseling, vocational education prepares inmates for a career after their release, while GED and adult basic education provide a strong base to build ongoing education.

Qualified inmates may join the workforce and do tasks or jobs within the facility in exchange for time off their sentence, while a work release program allows those who qualify to leave the jail to go to their jobs and return after their shift.

Life skills classes are held, and they will also develop necessary life skills throughout regular interactions during incarceration.

Medical care is available around the clock and includes prescription provisions, nutritional supplements, mental health services, dental care, and an opportunity to request medical care confidentially.

Meals are prepared fresh and provided three times each day with snacks available, and there are recreation opportunities that are good for the mind and the body.
