The Orange County Female Detention Center maintains an average of 652 offenders in custody on any given day. The Orange County Female Detention Center has a monthly turnover of 40% of their inmate population, another 30% turnover every 90 days, another 20% every six months, and approximately 10% stay incarcerated between six and twelve months. Every year Orange County law enforcement agencies arrest and detain approximately 84,640 offenders.
⇓ Learn more ⇓ Show lessAs part of the sprawling complex that makes up the Orange County Correctional Complex, the Female Detention Center can house up to 652 female inmates. This stand alone building is between the employee parking and the Whitcome Facility, along the John Young Parkway. It offers safe and secure housing for those who have been sentenced, with anyone waiting for their trial remaining in the Booking and Release Center, for as long as necessary.
As a direct supervision facility there are stations within each housing unit that allow for detention officers to be within the pod and interacting with inmates throughout the day. This improves relationships between staff and inmates, encourages positive interactions and social interactions, and is better for mental health. This method also decreases the occurrence of violence and incidents among the inmates, keeping the environment safe for all people within.
Special programs are provided to inmates in the Orange County Female Detention Center to address the needs and treatments for women specifically, and vocational training is in place to assist with employability after release. Medical care is provided onsite, as is mental health services and group therapy or support groups, that offer the support that they need to overcome their past and current concerns to build the life that they want, and to meet their own goals. Educational and vocational training are available to provide skills and decision making that will reduce recidivism.
Each inmate is encouraged to remain in contact with any support system that they have outside of the facility including their family and some friends. This contact improves both the mental health of the inmates and prepares them for their reentry into the community.
