Bridgeport Juvenile Detention Center Information

To improve the quality of life and the programming available, the Bridgeport Superior Court for Juvenile Matters and Detention Center were combined and offer services of both the court system as well as the detention of juvenile offenders in the same location. This removes the requirement to transport to the court and back, reducing the chances of being late or missing court dates. The building is large and airy with open spaces for recreation both inside and out, as well as individual rooms for each of the residents and common areas with large windows permitting plenty of natural light. It was designed to replace the previous juvenile facility with a safe, secure, and efficient facility. Space is available for up to 84 residents, and it is fully developed with classrooms, a gymnasium, commercial food services to provide healthy meals, a library, and a full art room. During the design there was a focus on creating a facility that mimics a school rather than a jail, and an attempt was made to use colors and lighting that felt homey and comforting. Mail: Residents are permitted to both send and receive mail that is correctly addressed with a complete return address. 60 Housatonic Ave, Bridgeport, CT 06608 Phones: Phone calls are permitted to those who are on the approved phone call list and during recreation or free hours only. This occurs mostly in the evening hours and will end with evening lockdown. Visitation: Visits with immediate family, especially parents or guardians, is shown to improve the mental health of residents as well as the results of their rehabilitation efforts. Visiting hours are provided regularly and visits can be booked by calling the facility directly.
