Serving as a temporary facility, the youth here are waiting for their trial or are being transferred to another facility to serve their sentence. While they are housed here, regardless of how short the time, they will be expected to attend classes each weekday, which are provided by the Shasta County Office of Education, as they run a fully acredited high school within the facility Mental health services are available for both treatment of addictions or substance use, as well as life skills, counseling, trauma healing, and supporting success in the program overall. Medical care is provided, as well as dental care and intervention services when needed. Each youth will undergo a physical, health and mental health assessment, and will be assigned housing that places them with youth who are close in age and with similar charges. Before being incarcerated, the probation department will attempt to use alternative programs including home supervision, community service, work programs, and other options.
