⇓ Learn more ⇓ Show lessThe Shasta County Jail is a seven story, white concrete structure in downtown Redding, California, located at 1655 West Street. The jail was built to house 484 inmates, 404 of them male and 80 female. You can phone the jail 24 hours a day at 530-245-6100 to find out about an inmate, or you can look up the inmate online.
Attached to both the Justice Center and the Municipal and Superior Courts, the jail was built in 1984 and totals 99,923 square feet of area. The Shasta County Jail, when fully staffed, is run by 43 correctional officers at a budget of $24 million per year.
Due to staffing issues and the fact that this facility is constantly undergoing rehab due to its age, the jail has been maintaining a maximum capcity of only 324 inmates, and often less than that. Because of the need for a newer facility and more space, Shasta County Board of Supervisors recently approved to build a 256 Jail Annex adjacent to the Shasta County Jail at a cost of about $120 million. This will bring the total capacity, after construction, to 740 beds. The Annex will be able to share the existing kitchen and booking areas of the new jail, which will save the county a substantial amount of money. The alternative was to build a new 1,000 bed jail on the Airport Road at a cost of $500 million.
The Shasta County Jail in California has visitation hours from 7:30 to 11:30 am and 6:00 to 10:00 pm, 7 days per week. There is an additional 12:30 to 4:30 pm window available on weekends. Visiting hours are generally 8:30 am to 11:30 am, with additional afternoon visiting hours on weekends. Each inmate is allowed two visits per week with each session being 30 minutes and a maximum of one adult and one child per visit. The Shasta County Sheriff requires all visitors to first complete an online application and registration before being approved to visit.
Mail can be received every day and is processed and passed to the inmates quickly. Friends and family of inmates in the Shasta County Jail can arrange to visit inmates by video, both at the jail and remotely from home. They can also communicate using an online text/email system, send them money and buy them commissary online, and set up a phone account that allows the inmates to call them during the day and evening seven days a week.
All the information on these inmate services can be found in the sections below. If you still have questions, you can phone the jail 24 hours a day by calling 530-245-6100.
