Sacramento County Youth Detention Facility Information

The Sacramento County Probation operates the Sacramento County Youth Detention Facility, as well as the programs that are within, and those that run outside of the facility to prevent the young offenders from being incarcerated. To approach the residents as a whole, the focus of the programs within the facility are on education, recreation, and vocational training to ensure that each youth leaves with the best possibility of success and is prepared for both life skills and employment. Medical services are provided as well as nutritious meals, mental health care and counselling are provided, and other programs assist in teaching life skills. Responsibility for actions, positive decision making, and encouraging positive behaviors are all part of the overall goal of the programs. The local school board will provide regular classes throughout the week that are equal to those in the local schools. Each resident will have a schedule that fits their needs and addresses their specific situation in the best way possible. By addressing the youth as a whole rather than focus on punishment, improvements can be seen in behavior and outlook, and through mail, phone calls, and visits, keeping the family a unit can also improve the results. Mail: Mail is unlimited and may include letters, cards, and publications, but all mail is checked for contraband. Phones: Payphones are available for youth to make collect phone calls to their parents or guardians. Each call is 15 minutes in length. Mail can be sent to: Name of Minor 9601 Kiefer Blvd Sacramento, CA 95827 Visitation: Only parents and guardians can visit, and any other visitors must have preapproval from the facility.
