Amador County Juvenile Services Information

Detention services for juveniles within Amador County are provided by the Probation Department. Upon referral from a law enforcement official the probation officer will determine by their own assessment if the case will result in a request to the district attorney for official charges and a trial, if the youth will be placed on probation and monitored by the probation officer, or if the case will be dropped. These officers also work with the school system to prevent and correct truancy concerns, and they participate in the Peer Court that uses other youths of the same age to function as a court and determine the consequences of the charges. This program is intended to address all youth issues early and prevent them from worsening and prevent future delinquency problems while limiting incarceration to serious cases. Those who are committed to incarceration will remain within the juvenile facility until they have attended their court dates, received their sentence, and completed the sentence. They will receive balanced meals, clothing and bedding, educational services to maintain their school classes, recreation time, and services to assist in preventing future delinquency concerns.
