⇓ Learn more ⇓ Show lessThe Faulkner County Detention Center is made up of two jails; Unit 1, which is a 100+ bed maximum security unit, and Unit 2, which is for general population inmates. Combined the two units of Faulkner County Detention Center have beds for 462 inmates, and even with that they are overcrowded.
For several years the Sheriff has been trying to get the county commissioners to agree to building a third jail, one that can eventually replace the older Unit 1, but at this stage it's still just talk. Unit 1 was originally built in 1991 and remodeled in 2002, but nothing has been done since then. It has serious roof leaks and plumbing issues that they continuously have to patch up.
Prior to the construction of the Faulkner County Detention Center, the county used the old jail next to the courthouse on Locust Street, that has now been turned into the Faulkner County Museum. It was built in 1896.
The Faulkner County Detention Center, with a staff of 87 correctional officers, houses inmates from low-level misdemeanors to those incarcerated for severe offenses like murder and rape. They book over 500 offenders into the jail every month. Correctional officers also transport prisoners and provide courthouse duties.
The detention center has an address of 801 Locust Street, Conway AR, but the front entrance and lobby is located in the 1400 block of Robinson. Note that the actual mailing address for inmates is different from both of these:
