Within Sweetwater County, all offenders who are arrested on felony or misdemeanor charges are housed at the 200-bed Sweetwater County Detention Center while they await their bail, their trial, and while they are serving a sentence. Additionally, some inmates may be housed here short term as they are being transported across the state.

With a top capacity of over 200 inmates, male and female, there are several housing units available along with many programs to ensure that inmates are prepared for their release and to rejoin their community. All medical care, meals, nutritional needs, mental health support, exercise and recreation opportunities, and opportunities to improve life and social skills are provided.

A central control room is used to monitor all areas of the building and grounds to ensure that staff are able to respond to potential incidents as needed and that they are able to maintain the safety of everyone in the building.
