Vilas County Juvenile Detention Information

For short term detention such as waiting for a court date, youth are held within the Vilas County Center, however, for longer terms they are often placed in nearby detention centers that offer a wide range of services and full programming. In charge of all placements is the Vilas County Juvenile Intake Department who work with youth who are 10 to 17 years in age, who have a court date pending or who are already being supervised by the court. This department ensures that both the youth and the family are following the order of the court and supervise their behavior while they are under court orders. This may include visits to the home, visits to the schools, ensuring restitution is paid, community service hours are completed, and are in charge of the electronic monitoring as well as following intensive supervision guidelines. For any youth who are being held in detention all of their basic needs are met including housing, clothing, laundry, healthy meals and snacks, educational services by licensed teachers, physical education, recreational time, and the opportunity to maintain contact with family via mail, phone, and visits. Mail: 330 Court Street Eagle River, WI 54521 No mail is accepted directly at the location unless it is through the US Postal Service. It will then be checked for contraband and any illegal items will be removed, along with any adult content or images. Telephone: Parents and guardians will receive phone calls from their child from the phones in housing units but are unable to call the youth directly and in case of emergency must contact staff. Visitation: Visits are limited to parents and guardians with siblings who are under 18, and they are scheduled with the facility that youth are being housed in, whether that is a group home, foster care, or detention.
