Polk County Juvenile Detention Information

Polk county juveniles who require services or are involved with the juvenile court fall under the Youth Justice Services. Within this program there are services for youth who need protection, families that require additional support, early intervention and alternatives to detention, and supervision. They work with youth who are between 10 and 18 years old and provide voluntary services to support families before the court system is involved and provide intervention and preventative services for a short period of time, juveniles who are in need of protection services, and services for those who have been within the juvenile court. Counsel and close provides an opportunity to meet with the family and determine if the case can be closed, a deffered prosecution that provides an agreement with rules and regulations to follow after which the case may be dismissed, or court ordered supervision which provides rules to be followed and staff to ensure they are supervised and following their court order. If youth are determined to require detention they will be housed at a local detention center nearby, usually the Lincoln Hills School for boys or the Copper Lake School for girls where they will receive all care required. Mail: Mail is permitted but will be checked for contraband, must be through the postal service, and contain a full return address. Telephone: Telephones are available in the common areas and may be used daily to contact parents or guardians. Visitation: Each facility has a weekly visitation schedule that will be provided to parents and guardians at their intake.
