Ozaukee County Juvenile Detention Information

Within Ozaukee County the Juvenile Justice Section is the responsible body for you who are aged 10-16 and have been accused of or proven to have broken a law or referred for protection, truancy, running away, or uncontrollable behavior. If a youth is charged before their 17th birthday they will remain in the juvenile court even beyond their birthday, as an attempt to keep more youth in the juvenile system rather than the adult system and detention centers. For those who are under 10 years of age, there is a Youth in Need of Protection and Services program that will provide them with the tools they need to make good choices and prevent them from continuing in a manner that may result in detention in the future. Staff and those who operate the programs are focused on protecting the community, holding juveniles responsible for their behavior, and providing them with the tools they need to be a productive and responsible member of their community. Alternatives to detention will be the first response, with detention being a last resort, but youth may be placed outside of their home for supervision in foster care or other alternatives if needed. Mail: Youth are able to both receive and send mail, which will be checked for contraband, during any involvement with the Juvenile Justice Services. Telephone: Juveniles are able to call their parents and guardians from out of home care. Visitation: Visiting is arranged with the specific location and will have different availability depending upon where the youth is being housed. Legal guardians and parents are able to contact the location directly to arrange a visit.
