Yakima County Juvenile Justice Center Information

The Yakima County Juvenile Justice Center houses several juvenile services including the Juvenile Detention Center. It provides alternatives to detention including restitution, fees, community service hours, skills classes, treatments, or counseling, or a combination of them. This is a first time offense program or for minor offenses, where the offender will be required to acknowledge what they had done and take responsibility for it. If the diversion program is not successful the youth will be housed at the detention center as they wait for a trial or if they are sentenced to detention for a period of time. Staff aim to not only keep the facility safe and protect the community but also to provide an environment that encourages personal growth and developing new skills for each of the youth. Each of the residents will attend school programming which will include an assessment that provides special education supports as needed, a mental health assessment and referral or provision of required treatments or counseling, medical treatments and assessments, and access to religious programming as well as other life and social skill programming.
