Denney Juvenile Justice Center Information

The detention center in Snohomish County falls under the jurisdiction of the Juvenile Court and provides housing for all young offenders in the county along with surrounding areas. They provide several programs that are designed to provide personal development opportunities to all of the residents. Along with a regular education that matches the local school board, presented by licensed teachers, and all accommodations to be successful in those classes, there are several other learning opportunities presented. Several community volunteers offer programs through the facility, and this allows for residents to remain connected to their community while also learning new skills, growing social skills, learning vocational skills, and more. Direct supervision is used throughout the facility which has residents interacting with the officers and staff every day, and the staff work to show positive social interactions and be good role models. Health Services Staff provide full medical care including a health screening for new arrivals, and provide follow up treatment, ongoing care for existing medical concerns or diagnosis, and provide health related education. The remaining education, the academics, are provided by the Northwest Educational Service District 189. Classes mirror the local schools for smooth transitions into and out of the facility. Mail: Residents may send and receive mail while they are in the detention center through the US Postal Service and will be provided with to write and respond. Phone: Phones are provided for residents to call their parents and guardians, with the number of calls varying dependent upon behavior and population of the facility. Visitation: Visitors are restricted to parents, guardians, and other approved visitors. Each resident will get one visit each week of 30 minutes per visit during the hours of: Thursday evening between 6-6:30, 6:45-7:15, and 7:30-8 p.m.; and Saturday afternoon between 12:45-1:15 and 1:30-2 p.m. Call 425-388-7811 to book a visit.

Magazines
News, special interest or sports magazines may also be mailed to an inmate as long as they are shipped directly from the publisher. Any magazines that contain profanity, weapons, pornography or other content that is adult in nature will be confiscated by the jail staff and will NOT be delivered to the inmate.

Books
The Denney Juvenile Justice Center allows books to be mailed directly to the jail from a reputable source such as AmazonBarnes & Noble or Books-A-Million. You can order them directly from your computer and have them shipped to the inmate at the address noted.
Books must NOT contain images or content that are considered excessively violent, pornographic or obscene. Any book that does not meet the Denney Juvenile Justice Center standards will be disposed of. 
Hard cover books will not be accepted by the jail due to their potential to be used as a weapon.
