Kitsap County Juvenile Detention Facility Information

The Kitsap County Juvenile Detention Facility accepts young offenders, under the age of 18, who are charged with what would be considered a misdemeanor or felony for an adult. Along with youth from Kitsap County, youth from surrounding and nearby communities and other counties are also accepted and provided with the same services and housing options, with Jefferson County being one of the counties who access this facility. It provides care and control for all youth who are waiting for their trial or who have been sentenced for up to two years, with all basic needs being provided for including healthy meals and exercise, physical education, academics provided by licensed teachers following the public schools, and programs to meet other needs. Medical care is provided onsite, and all prescription medications are provided to the youth based upon the instructions provided, as well as all other medical care. A mental health team provides interventions, treatments, and counseling as needed to improve the mental health of all residents. Substance abuse is addressed, and residents are provided with knowledge and tools to prevent dependency in the future, as well as new life skills and opportunities to improve their social skills. Mail: All youth who are residing in the center are able to receive mail at the facility address where it will be x-rayed before deliver and scanned for contraband and content that refers to violence, drugs, sexual content, or other threats. Youth may send out one letter per day. Residents may not send mail to other residents of a detention center or anyone who has been in the KCJDC.
