This department is the criminal justice agency that is not only responsible for the operation of the jail but also of the probation services, all offenders’ services both in and out of the jail, and any volunteers that will be offering services within the building.
This Cowlitz County Jail, located at 1935 1st Avenue, Longview, WA 98632, was built in 2005 and is the only detention facility in the county, filling all the needs of the county including Longview, Kelso, Castle Rock, Kalama, Woodland, and all the small communities that dot the area.
The jail averages 325 inmates at any one time, and they offer all of the needed basic care, contact with friends and family who are not currently incarcerated, and probation services.

Mail can be received every day and is processed and passed to the inmates quickly, however the jail also uses a digital service to avoid contraband entering the facility.
