Virginia Beach Juvenile Detention Center Information

The Virginia Beach Juvenile Detention Center has several programs that provide support and safety to the community and assist juvenile offenders in preventing recidivism, learning new skills, and developing positive decision making. The Community Placement Program offers an opportunity for youth to remain in their community without secure detention but access behavioral interventions, substance abuse treatment, group sessions, and skill building. A pre-dispositional program allows for those who are waiting for their court date or their sentencing to remain in the detention center closest to their family and community while they receive all necessary medical, mental health, crisis, behavioral, and other interventions and treatments. A pos-dispositional program offers 15 beds for both male and female youth to complete 180 days in the facility, or less, and each will be engaged with behavioral interventions, therapy, group sessions, education and GED prep, anger management, empathy enhancement, and more. All medical, nutritional, and mental health needs will be met while youth work towards improving decision making, social skills, and life skills.
