⇓ Learn more ⇓ Show lessServing the detention needs of several counties, the Rappahannock Regional Jail houses the inmates from Stafford, Spotsylvania, King George, and the city of Fredericksburg. The original facility was created in 1968 and this makes it the oldest jail in the area. At 1,386 beds, it is as large as a mid-size prison and is indeed as secure.
The Rappahannock Regional Jail is located at 1745 Richmond Hwy in Stafford, Virginia, and can be reached 24 hours a day by calling 540-288-5245. It has an official Inmate Jail Roster, complete with mugshots, criminal charges, docket numbers and other pertinent information.
Programs that are connected with the facility are the probation program, crisis intervention team, and the electronic monitoring program as well as a work release program for non-violent, minimum security offenders. Drug treatment, mental health support, and post release support is all provided to assist inmates in their rehabilitation and to set them up for success after they have finished their sentence. To provide money to an inmate for their commissary, use jailatm.com, or at the jailatm kiosk located within the lobby. Tablets are in use at this facility, through gettingout.com, that allow inmates to receive email or text messages, to make phone and video calls to their family and friends, and to watch movies, read books, and listen to music.
The lobby is open from Monday to Friday from 8am until 8pm, and the kiosks are accessible around the clock every day of the week. Visits are completed online via video calls, which can be accessed onsite when the kiosk is available or from home and will connect to the inmate's tablet. Visits must be scheduled at least one day in advance and are 45 minutes each, with one visit per week. No visits are permitted during the inmates first 72 hours.
Mail can be received every day and is processed and passed to the inmates quickly, however the jail uses a digital service to avoid contraband entering the facility. Friends and family of inmates in the Rappahannock Regional Jail can arrange to visit inmates by video, both at the jail and remotely from home. Friends and family can also communicate using an online text/email system, send them money and buy them commissary online, and set up a phone account that allows the inmates to call them during the day and evening seven days a week.
All the information on these inmate services can be found in the sections below. If you still have questions, you can phone the jail 24 hours a day by calling 540-288-5245.
After being arrested, the offender is brought to the Rappahannock Regional Jail for booking, which is the detailed process of identifying, classifying, deciding on charges, and whether the person will either be released on their own recognizance, allowed to be released on bail, or moved into the jail until their court date.
The first thing every newly arrested person must do is close their mouth. Everything an offender says may be used against them, so the best thing to do is remain silent when questioned about the arrest and what led to it.
These are the steps of booking someone into the Rappahannock Regional Jail:
Booking can take as little as an hour, or up to 48 hours on a busy weekend or holiday evening, or if the offender is violent, wasted or generally uncooperative. If you have any questions about when you can pay an offender's bond and what the cost will be, call the facility at 540-288-5245.
When an offender is arrested and brought to the Rappahannock Regional Jail in Stafford for booking, there are several outcomes after being processed.
1. The offender will be released with no bail, promising to return on a specific date to appear before a judge in either Municipal or Stafford County Court.
2. The offender is ordered to remain in jail until their court date.
3. The offender is allowed to be released after paying a specified bond or bail. Call 540-288-5245 to get the exact amount.
The payment of an offender's bail or bond can take many shapes.
