Inmates are offenders that were arrested in Washington County, Norton city, Norton, City of Norton, Dickenson County, Tazewell County, Wise County, Lee County, Buchanan County, Smyth County, or Russell County.
The facility houses both male and female inmates and will proceed from the booking process directly to the end of their sentence, unless higher security or other needs are present, at which time they will be transferred to another facility.
This location offers all of the care that is needed, from bedding and clothing to laundry and food services, as well as maintaining a commissary for inmates to purchase needed items and access to phone calls and visits to remain in contact with their support system outside of the jail.
Programs have been created to assist in rehabilitation of the inmates including treatment for drugs or alcohol abuse, housing assistance for after their sentence has been completed, mental health counselling and dental care.
While detainees are at this facility, they will have access to any money that is deposited for them and can use it to purchase items. In order to add money to their account friends and family can access the kiosk that is in the jail lobby at any time, or they can deposit online.
Detainees are also provided with access to phones during the day, from the time that breakfast has been completed until lights out at night, when they are able to call anyone who they have had approved on their list. Loved ones can easily add money to this account online, as well as access a voicemail program that allows friends and family to leave a voicemail that is delivered to the inmate.
There is also a program in place that allows friends and family to have video visits, allowing those who are unable to access the jail or travel to it for visits to still have access to and communication with someone who is incarcerated. Visitors can access the schedule of visiting hours for that inmate and to schedule a visit during those times. The hours will be between 7:30 and 10:30am, 1:30 and 4:30pm, and 8-10pm but will further vary by inmate depending upon other visits they have scheduled and their own routine and sessions within the jail.
