Crater Youth Care Commission Information

Opening their first secure detention facility for youth in 1975, the Crater Youth Care Commission was developed to provide a safe, secure detention facility. Programs within are focused on learning experiences, both academically and life experiences, and to ensure the safety of the youth and the community. Both psychological and physical safety are considered, and youth are taught how to approach problems, new life skills, and opportunities to improve their social skills. They will be provided with three meals each day that are created around the nutritional needs of their age group, as well as healthy snacks. With all care provided, including laundry, clothing, hygiene items, time for self-care, meals, recreational time, education, and mental and medical care, each of the juveniles are able to focus on their personal development. Gaining skills to create a successful future and learning how they will fit into their community are key takeaways from the programs. Programs help residents to learn how to create lives that fit their needs, their values, and that fit within the laws of the state.
