As the community grows and other facilities close, additional beds may be required to open in the future. It houses both male and female juvenile offenders who are either pre-dispositional and waiting for their trial or who are post-adjudication or have been placed in the facility as a part of their sentencing. Offering a full range of services to the young offenders in the community and their families, all basic care and control are present as well as programs to focus on the rehabilitation of the youth throughout their detention. Education, arts and crafts, physical exercise, medical and mental healthcare are provided, along with nutritional needs. Housing units provide sleeping areas surrounding a common area that provides showers and table areas to eat, write letters, space to read, and other social activities. Efforts are made by all staff to ensure that along with the physical needs of the youth their emotional needs are also met. Mail is screened before being provided to the resident. Phones: Residents are provided with two calls each week to a lawyer or other professional, and two to call their parents or guardians. Only approved visitors are able to attend, and they must follow the dress code and are not able to bring outside items into the facility.

Magazines

Any magazines that contain profanity, weapons, pornography or other content that is adult in nature will be confiscated by the jail staff and will NOT be delivered to the inmate.

Books
The Fairfax County Juvenile Detention Center allows books to be mailed directly to the jail from a reputable source such as AmazonBarnes & Noble or Books-A-Million. You can order them directly from your computer and have them shipped to the inmate at the address noted.
