Housing youth who are charged with an offense and waiting for a disposition, or those who have received a sentence to detention, the Chesapeake Juvenile Detention provides for all care while in their control, including a safe and secured environment. Meals are provided and created to be healthy and balanced, laundry is done regularly, recreational space is available, and activities are provided, and school classes run each weekday. Positive behavior and choices are encouraged and rewarded, while negative behaviors result in the loss of privileges such as phone calls or visits. Each day there is a designated time for a shower and brushing teeth, with clean clothing being provided at that time. No homework, mail, or other personal belongings are allowed in the private rooms of the youth and will be stored int he assigned place in the common areas. Planned activities are expected to have full attendance, and there will be additional recreation time and free time where they can choose their own activities. Television or movies may be watched on some weekends, but it is not a regular part of the day.
