Within the Roanoke Valley Juvenile Detention operates the short term detention program for pre-adjudicated youth and the IMPACT post-disposition program. The IMPACT 180 offers a 180 day program that teaches new habits, socially acceptable behavior, responsibility, and to provide tools for a productive and responsible future. I tis an alternative to straight detention and uses motivation and a rehabilitation tool for each of the youth who go through the program. Throughout the facility there are 81 beds, and they are divided into 6 living units, serving the cities of Roanoke and Salem, the counties of Franklin, Botetourt, and Roanoke, and the families within them. All of the detainees will remain on a strict schedule that includes time for their morning self-care and hygiene, three meals and a snack each day, school is attended each weekday and follows the same schedule as the public schools, and they will receive their necessary medical care and attend any sessions, group or individual, that is recommended for mental health. Focusing on responsibility, emotional growth, accountability, social skills and social responsibility, and being part of a community is one of the ways in which the location supports their community.
