About the Arlington County Detention Facility

The Arlington County Detention Facility, located in downtown Arlington, Virginia at 1435 North Courthouse Road, is breaking tradition with adding several new processes and features to the facility that will make it safer and offer increased supports and rehabilitation of inmates. Some of these measures include the addition of a full body scanner which will be used to reduce the amount of contraband that is smuggled into the jail by staff or visitors, pet therapy to encourage healing and forward progression to reduce recidivism, and a transition to video visitation to allow those who do not have family or friends living nearby to still have regular visits.

Do you need to see if someone has been arrested in this county?  Check out the inmate search tool.

Money can be deposited to the account of an inmate to support their commissary purchases and other sues through the kiosk within the lobby of the detention center, or through etransfer at smartdeposit.com. Phone calls are also provided each day and are currently through SecurusTech.net. This program allows inmates to use the same tablet or kiosk to perform remote visits as well as phone calls. Video visits will be monitored and can be ended at any time due to rule breaking or other concerns. There are 2 video visits permitted each week, and they are 20 minutes in length, but phone calls can be made more frequently. With the current system inmates can instigate a visit from the device, which removes the requirement for a strict visiting schedule, and they can arrange a time and day with visitors during their phone calls. With an approximate 500 inmates in the facility at any time, it is necessary to follow the time limits as a way to ensure that each inmate will be successful in contacting their loved ones.

Don't be freaked out by the mailing address for personal mail. You'll notice that it's in Missouri.  Recently the Arlington County Detention Facility began working with a third party mail service that scans your letters to an inmate and then sends it digitally to the jail. This is because in the past others before you were soaking their letters in liquified drugs. This new method eliminates that risk.

For complete information about bailing out someone who has been arrested in Arlington County, mailing them letters, receiving phone calls from them, texting, emailing and visiting, and even buying them snacks that you can have shipped to them, check out the detailed sections below for all of the answers. If you still have questions, call the jail at 703-228-4470.
