Weber Valley Youth Center is a short term facility where the juveniles, aged 12-18, are housed while they wait for their court date, wait for their disposition, or are waiting for a transfer to an alternative, long term facility. Most of the children who are admitted will be there for a few days or a few weeks, with rare cases occurring where they may remain there for a few months. After arrival youth will have a medical assessment to determine any medical care that they require immediately as well as set up ongoing care, a mental health assessment that will provide the necessary mental health services and support, and an educational assessment to determine their grade level and ensure the correct work is provided. All classes are provided by the local schoolboard and licensed teachers will provide the classes. Cognitive behavioral groups are used to help with changes in decision making and behaviors, while life and social skills develop through interactions during activities and through encouragement and guidance of staff. Visitation: Case managers will confirm with family when they are able to visit their youth, with most visits being held between 5:30pm and 6:30pm.
