These pods are separated into men’s, women’s, and medical pods to ensure that each inmate receives fair and humane treatment based upon their needs. Due to the needs of each of these groups there are 217 beds within the men’s pods and 60 in the women’s, with any juvenile offenders being transported and held at the Salt Lake Valley Detention Center.
As part of the humane treatment and mental health supports for inmates there is regular access to visits with friend and family who are outside of the jail, both onsite and over video call. For onsite visiting it is necessary to call the facility in the morning that you wish to visit at 8:30am to schedule, and the housing assignment will determine the day of the visit so you must ensure that you have contact with the inmate to determine their housing before scheduling a visit.
Each visit will occur during the hours of 9am to 4pm from Monday to Friday. For those who are unable to make these hours or who live too far to drive for regular visits, video visitation is available through iWebVisits.com with a larger and more flexible schedule making it easy for anyone to access visits.
Other online services that offer supports to inmates include the InmateCanteen.com that allows people to load money to the account of an inmate so they may purchase commissary items for their own use and self-care, and the VINE system that allows for anyone who is involved in or interested in a case to have a notification of any progress such as updated release dates, transfers to other facilities, and charges.
Inmates will also have access to phones during they day and can make outgoing phone calls, however there are no incoming phone calls accepted and there is not a system to send messages to an inmate.
