Canyonlands Youth Home Information

Supporting juveniles aged 12-18 and also functioning as a detention center for young offenders, the Canyonlands Youth Home serves many purposes within one building. The Juvenile Justice Services operate out of the facility, but there are also services relating to adoption, emergency shelter for at risk youths, and support for families in the community. Community Correctional is operated and houses youth both while they are waiting for their court dates or while they are engaged in a program that is offering rehabilitative treatments. Services provided include medical and mental health assessments and treatment based upon those assessments, educational classes and support through the local school district, healthy meals and snacks every day, laundry services, and recreational time. Youth are taught skills and coping mechanisms to become comfortable and create healthy relationships in their community and family. Regular schedules are maintained, and both social and life skills are taught to prepare each of the youth for their future, and family support is offered to encourage families to develop new skills for helping their youth as well. Ongoing support is provided through the programs after the detention period has passed. Magazines
News, special interest or sports magazines may also be mailed to an inmate as long as they are shipped directly from the publisher. Any magazines that contain profanity, weapons, pornography or other content that is adult in nature will be confiscated by the jail staff and will NOT be delivered to the inmate.
